Over the last decades, varicose vein treatments have advanced considerably. With new technology emerging all the time, vein treatments have become more effective, fast, and pain-free.

Is Vein Treatment Painful?

Forget about painful and long procedures like vein stripping and ligation. Now, vein specialists treat complex vein diseases using minimally invasive treatments like ablation and microphlebectomy. These procedures are virtually pain-free and don’t involve complex surgeries or extensive recovery times.

Is There More Than One Process?

There are a variety of procedures that close faulty veins, reduce pain, and improve the appearance of large, raised veins. Generally, varicose veins are treated on an outpatient basis with non-invasive techniques.

How Does it Work?

A physician will study your family history, examine your legs, and recommend a treatment customized to your specific condition. Generally, vein specialists first try at-home treatments and lifestyle changes, before moving on to outpatient treatments. Here is a list of some of the common procedures offered by varicose doctors.

Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLT)

Endovenous Laser Ablation is a non-surgical, outpatient procedure that uses laser technology to close off varicose veins. A vein specialist will use a catheter and ultrasound to precisely target your varicose veins with laser heat. Malfunctioning veins will eventually shrink and fade, and the blood flow will be restored. This procedure is recommended for veins that have not become twisted yet.

Radiofrequency Thermal Ablation

Similarly to EVLT, this procedure consists of closing off faulty veins to redirect blood flow to healthier veins. Radiofrequency Thermal Ablation uses radiofrequency energy to heat the internal walls of the veins to damage the tissue. The scar tissue will result in a closed varicose vein. The radiofrequency energy is delivered through a catheter or small tube that is carefully inserted into the patient’s skin.

VenaSeal

The VenaSeal procedure is an alternative to the ablation procedure that uses medical glue to close off a vein. Your vein specialist will insert a small amount of medical glue using a catheter, or a small tube. Once the vein is sealed, blood will be immediately rerouted through nearby healthy veins.
