Spider Veins Treatments
How Do You Treat Spider Veins?
Spider veins use some of the same treatments as varicose veins do. These are often simple and relatively painless, and don’t require you to recover and rest for long periods after it’s done. Our vein specialists can recommend the treatment that’s best for you.
Spider veins can come back or turn into varicose veins, so you can follow up with us every so often to prevent more spider veins or close off new ones.
Spider Veins or Varicose Veins?

Sclerotherapy
In sclerotherapy, your vein specialist injects a solution into the vein, which makes it collapse and close. Blood then starts to flow through healthier veins instead. It doesn’t require anesthesia, and you’ll see your spider veins fade in a few weeks.
EVLT (Endovenous Laser Ablation)
In EVLT, your doctor uses a catheter and ultrasound to go into your veins, and then a laser to heat the varicose vein until it closes. The process closes off faulty veins so blood only flows through healthy veins. The faulty vein eventually shrinks and fades.
Spider Veins During Pregnancy
Pregnant women get spider veins because they have more blood flowing through their body than usual, and this puts pressure on their veins. Although you can get treatments for them, you have to wait until after your pregnancy. In the meantime, you should:
- Eat fiber so constipation doesn’t make your veins work harder.
- Work out to improve blood flow.
- Eat vitamin C to help repair and maintain veins.
- Elevate your legs to help blood flow.
- Use compression socks to give your veins a boost.
